Comparing the UFC and TNA Sales |
|
Industry |
Mixed Martial Arts, the sport that went
from a nearly banned freak show in the 90’s to Americas fifth
sport, or sixth depending on how you feel about powerboat racing. |
Technically....wrestling, yeah, we'll go
with that |
Key Assets |
UFC has some of the biggest names in
sports under contract – Ronda Rousey, Conor Macgregor…. Jon
Jones (sort of). If they could sign Steph Curry to a flyweight
fight, they would have the full set. |
They have a ring, some a half decent
lighting rig and Dixie just found a $5 bill down the back of the
couch, so that’s something |
Quality of Management Team |
Dana White can be abrasive at times but
has a history of getting things done. Hell, you could be forgiven
for thinking he masterminded the whole Conor MacGregor deal to
guarantee a massive buyrate for UFC 202 |
Erm, by definition, they have management,
and how can one measure something as intangible as ‘quality’
really? |
Brand Awareness |
High, UFC is synonomous with MMA. The
nearest competitor, Bellator, sounds like an off-brand cologne,
which is fitting because they use largely off brand fighters. |
Its complicated. TNA Wrestling is
relatively unknown outside of Tennessee, and fairly unknown
within. But the TNA letters and their other ‘connotations’ is
very well known. (ahem..porn..ahem) Might be an idea for the
future, but could meaning letting Vince Russo back in the building |
Drug Problems |
Rampant, unless there really is a
correlation between naturally low testosterone and MMA ability.
They offer up the occasional high profile sacrificial lamb (Jon
Jones) to give faint air of legitimacy. Employed Brock Lesnar at
short notice, so.... |
Hey, Kurt Angle has left and Jeff Hardy
says can quit anytime he likes |
Average PPV buys |
300,000 for a non name title match, up to
one million if there's a chance Ronda Rousey will murder somebody
in under a minute |
We plead the fifth your honor |
Growth Prospects |
Limited. The company has grown massively
since its inception in 1995 but now has seemingly little room to
expand. After all, there are only so many men walking round with
shaven heads, poorly chosen tattoos, wearing Affliction
everything, and the company is unlikely to break into the The
View’s demographic. |
This is where TNA can really sell its
value. The opportunity to grow is unlimited – as it will be when
you start from nothing. In fact, TNA has another big selling
point, they have already made every mistake possible for a
wrestling promotion, and some that shouldn’t be possible, so any
potential buyer has a clear path to success |
Expected sale value |
$4bn, to put that in perspective, that’s
a bigger market value than the world market for Christmas trees.
Imagine being bigger than Christmas!! Even the Beatles
couldn't manage that |
Buy us lunch and the company is yours! |
Eventual Purchaser:
UFC - Massive entertainment conglomerate with near unlimited resources
TNA - Third rate Kurt Cobain knock-off from the 90’s
